Local authorities said seven people died after a shooting at a school in Thailand's Nonthaburi province on 7 August. Among the dead was the suspected gunman, a student at the school.

The six other victims were three teachers and three students. Fifteen others were wounded, with two reported to be in critical condition.

The attack took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, on the outskirts of Bangkok. Students and teachers fled the campus as rescue workers and ambulances arrived to treat the injured.

Police have not confirmed a motive and are investigating how the student obtained the weapon. Latest police reports say the suspect shot and killed his grandmother and grandfather at their home before going to the school and opening fire.

According to local district authorities, the school had about 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.

Background on gun violence

The attack follows another school shooting in southern Thailand earlier this year. In February, a teacher was killed and a student was injured when a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district.

It also adds to Thailand's history of deadly gun attacks targeting schools and childcare centres. In 2022, a former police officer killed 36 people, including 24 children, at a childcare centre in northeastern Nong Bua Lamphu province.

The latest violence has renewed debate over firearms controls, while Thai officials offered condolences to the victims' families and emergency teams continued treating the wounded.
